Growing Natives Garden Tour 2011

Dent Avenue Native Habitat Garden (4 photos)

Garden #49, San Jose

Showcase Features: A tired lawn was replaced by a dynamic native garden installed by the homeowner. A permeable path winds through beds planted with coyote brush and rosy buckwheat. Ceanothus "Dark Star" and Manzanita "St. Helena" anchor the plantings. A young valley oak will eventually be the centerpiece of the front yard. Mahonia "Golden Abundance" is planted along the shady wall.

Other Garden Attractions: The downspouts empty into the garden, which soaks up the rainwater.
