Growing Natives Garden Tour 2017

Woodland Meadow Retreat (8 photos)

Garden #34, Sunnyvale

Showcase Features: While unassuming in front, this home features a large rear yard displaying a wonderful interface between woodland plantings and a large meadow - a terrific blending of two native plant communities. Existing curved perimeter pathways have been retained and gracefully added to for a seamless design. New curved stepstone walks and decomposed granite paths to create a sense of repetition, flow and interest. The woodland garden at the perimeter features some unusual species such as Snowberry and upright Coyote Bush, along with Coffeeberry, Ribes speciosum, Toyon, Oregon Grape, and Buckeye. Groundcovers include Hedge Nettle and Salvia spathacea. The meadow features Fescue, Poppies, Iris, and Monkey Flower. Grey accents at the perimeter include White Sage, Canyon Prince Wild Rye, and Bladderpod. A blue ceramic fountain next to the meadow serves as a focal point for the garden as does a seating area near a young Valley Oak.
