Growing Natives Garden Tour 2018

Buckwheat Garden (8 photos)

Garden #54, Campbell

Showcase Features: This small front yard cottage-style garden looks much bigger than it actually is with its winding paths and mature shrubs. Designed for habitat and sustainability, using several large shrubs--coyote brush, St. Catherine's lace and Dr. Hurd manzanita--as focal points, it invites you to wander and discover little details like a handcrafted solar fountain. Penstemon palmeri, Ribes sanguinem, native salvias, narrow leaf milkweed, "Midnight Magic" wooly blue curls, native alliums, mugwort and yampah attract pollinators and birds as well as insure four season interest. Branches are used as path boundaries, and to create lizard dens. Native long horned bees often sleep in yampah flowers. See how you can turn a sterile lawn into beautiful wildlife garden even in a dense suburban neighborhood. This homeowner-designed garden is full of inspiration.
