Going Native Garden Tour 2019

Mossbrook Garden (8 photos)

Garden #35, San Jose

Showcase Features: Near the sidewalk, a coast live oak and groundcover sage offer a welcome alternative to the standard parking strip plants. The front garden shows off a variety of perennials including manzanitas, buckwheats, and coyote mint. Island alum root, pink-flowered hybrid coral bells, and California fuchsia welcome hummingbirds, while native iris under the holly-leaf and Catalina cherry trees offer a welcome splash of color in the spring.

Other Garden Attractions: The more shady back garden features a wisteria arbor, an attractive retaining wall, raised beds for vegetables, and plantings from the redwood community. Look for wild ginger, creeping Oregon grape, Douglas iris, sword fern, and coffeeberries.

Gardening for Wildlife: The owners planted berry bushes for birds and are looking forward to the many visitors sure to come.

Plant Sale: On Saturday, CNPS-Santa Clara Valley chapter will hold a book sale at this garden. New and used books on California native plants and gardening will be available, along with t-shirts and other items.
