Growing Natives Garden Tour 2025
Native Bonsai trees and Bonsai arrangements (20 photos)
Garden #46, Menlo Park
This garden can be visited only on Sun, Apr 13, 2025.
Showcase Features: For the first time on the Growing Natives Garden Tour, you will have an opportunity to view a collection of bonsai featuring California Native trees. Many native species like oaks, redwoods, and junipers adapt well to bonsai culture and reflect the natural beauty and diversity of California's landscapes. The tour will feature multiple examples of 10 different species displayed in a rustic setting.
Other Garden Attractions: Bonsai represents a miniaturized representation of a full-sized mature tree that could be seen growing in Nature. Kusamono is a related art that focuses on the plants that would be found growing naturally along with the trees in a landscape. Kusamono arrangements are typically displayed on their own without an accompanying bonsai tree. A great benefit of kusamono is that they are very portable, don't take up a lot of space and take less time to design, plant, and maintain. These features make them ideal for renters because when you move, you can take them with you. Whether you're in an apartment or a house, you can start a native bonsai and /or kusamono garden, enjoy its growth and beauty, and easily move it when it's time to relocate, preserving both your passion for gardening and a piece of California's natural heritage.
