Growing Natives Garden Tour 2016
Korby Falls (8 photos from 2015)
Garden #3, Redwood City
Showcase Features: Steep slopes are always a challenge for the gardener, but Bill and Kathy made an opportunity out of this challenge and designed a 10-foot high recirculating pondless waterfall, surrounded by California Natives. At the bottom of the waterfall, a patio invites the visitor to sit and enjoy the sound of the water, the different colors and textures, and the peaceful atmosphere.
Other Garden Attractions: A wide variety of native shrubs and perennials including manzanita, ocean spray, buckwheats, and different sages lay the foundation. Native succulents such as chalk dudleya and stonecrop appreciate the sharp drainage. Some native grasses and annuals such as tidy tips, Chinese houses, tarweed, goldfields and much more round out the pretty picture.
Gardening for Wildlife: The owners use an audio CD and motion detection sprinkler to discourage crows and deer and allow access to the many other birds, lizards, damsel fles, and pollinators. In that way, the precious water becomes a gift to many creatures, and the plants have some protection from being nibbled to the ground.
