Growing Natives Garden Tour 2016
Ackerson garden (8 photos)
Garden #78, San Jose
Showcase Features: The small front yard garden blends well with the house. There is a small uphill grade which is handled with an attractive flagstone pathway step and a small fieldstone rock wall. Plants are pleasingly massed and the Deer Grass is placed to thrive and catch the light. Recently landscaped, large back garden is planted with a diverse variety of natives that are also effective pollinators for the existing and new fruit trees and vegetable gardens. Berms are used to create interest and guide visitors through the garden.
Other Garden Attractions: Native plants include Carmel Sur Manzanita ground cover, Huckleberries, California Lilac, Cleveland Sage, Wooly Golden Aster, Rosy Buckwheat, Louis Edmonds Manzanita and Canyon Prince Leymus Grass. Drought tolerant but non-native Silver Carpet surrounds the flagstone pathway.
