Growing Natives Garden Tour 2012
Barron Park Natives (10 photos)
Garden #13, Palo Alto
Showcase Features: When the owners decided to plant natives under the mature trees, they had to work with compacted soil, root competition, and low light conditions. Now, 4 years later, the lush green garden includes coffeeberry, coral bells, toyon, berberis, snowberry, and California redbud in the front. In the back, San Bruno golden aster forms a ground cover that contrasts with the grey-leaved Lessingia 'Silver Carpet'. The back also includes manzanita, sugarbush, and a hybrid grape.
Other Garden Attractions: Two round brick patios, each with a wooden bench, invite the visitor to sit and enjoy the lush landscape. Attractive pottery sets off the green plants.
