Growing Natives Garden Tour 2012
Carolina Avenue Garden (5 photos)
Garden #3, Redwood City
Showcase Features: This professionally-designed front yard is a marvelous example of a lawn conversion that creates a natural habitat.
Other Garden Attractions: In a raised bed two mature (non-native) crepe myrtle trees provide a colorful backdrop and shade for the house and for giant western chain fern, Heuchera cultivars and Douglas iris. A pea-gravelled keyhole space opens to a solar-powered bird bath while dividing the garden into different planting areas. A wide variety of native plants including thimbleberry, woodland strawberry, Ceanothus 'Skylark', wild ginger, deer grass, goldenrod, and California fuchsia, create a lovely native garden. To the right of the garden a young toyon provides height and a vibrant contrast to smaller shrubs and perennials.
