Growing Natives Garden Tour 2017
Cottage Garden (10 photos)
Garden #82, Los Gatos
Showcase Features: Over the several past years, the owners of this garden have been converting the garden from high-water usage to drought-tolerant, focusing primarily on California natives. While there are still some non-native plants remaining, the garden is mostly native now. A winding path through berms/mounds mulched with shredded bark provides easy viewing of a variety of plants: coyote mints, manzanitas, penstemon, several varieties of buckwheats, salvias, ceanothus, and more.
Other Garden Attractions: Planting under a live oak presented some challenges, overcome with shade-loving hummingbird sage and evergreen currants.
Gardening for Wildlife: Rabbits, squirrels, hummingbirds, crows, butterflies, bees are frequent visitors.
