Growing Natives Garden Tour 2012
Living in Front of an Eichler (6 photos)
Garden #23, Sunnyvale
Showcase Features: The homeowner took a class in designing a native garden and went enthusiastically to work! This is another successful example of sheet mulching a lawn with paper and wood chips. After unsuccessfully trying to talk the adjoining neighbor into also replacing his lawn, the result shows dueling grasses next to each other - a row of architectural deer grass next to the neighbor's turf. This triangle front garden showcases several types of sage, Ceanothus, monkeyflower, currants and bunch grasses. There is also a row of an unusual blue Festuca rubra 'Patrick's Point'.
