Growing Natives Garden Tour 2012

Ryan Family Garden (6 photos)

Garden #27, Sunnyvale

Showcase Features: This professionally designed garden artfully incorporates a variety of native plants with an existing landscape of two mature trees and rose bushes.

Planted in October 2011, this is a good example of a very nice, low budget native garden.

Other Garden Attractions: An attractive path curves naturally through the garden creating different planting areas. An olive tree to the left of the house provides shade for the dwelling and for Douglas iris, creeping ceanothus, beach strawberry, and Heuchera cultivars. Pink island alomroot, Select Mattole fuchsia, leafy reed grass offset three red yucca in the central planting area. Creeping Mahonia and (non-native) Berkeley sedge fill the narrow median between the sidewalk and the curb. To the right across the drive way a narrow bed accented with native plants includes dwarf aster, penstemon, a small buckeye, and California fuchsia.
