Showcase Features: This urban garden was the home of a few established California Native Plants when it was purchased in 2000. When new landscaping began in 2001 the front lawn was removed and new drought- tolerant Native plants were planted. A special emphasis was placed on Native plants which could provide habitat and food for seed, insect and nectar loving birds, bees and butterflies. This same goal has been kept in mind with any new plantings. The hummingbirds drink the nectar from the tiny manzanita flowers which start blooming in November. In late spring and summer the Sages provide nectar for the hummingbirds and bees. In the fall the California Fuchsia flowers are the favorite mealtime spot for the hummingbirds.

Other Garden Attractions: The 'Rogers Red' hybrid California Grape Plants yielded 160 pounds of grapes in 2017. In the backyard, there is a chicken coop with two chickens and an aviary for White Ringneck Doves. A man-made creek controls flooding when it rains.

Gardening for Wildlife: NWF "Backyard Habitat" since 2005. Attracts: Hummingbirds, White crowned sparrows, California Towhee, Goldfinches, Eurasian Collared Doves, Juncos, Mourning Doves, Woodpeckers, Squirrels, Butterflies, and Bees. Wrens, Bushtits, Hummingbird, and California Towhee have nested here.
