Growing Natives Garden Tour 2011
Todd Street Garden (8 photos)
Garden #21, Mountain View
Showcase Features: The established front garden showcases a variety of native shrubs and perennials, including a collection of sages. A coffeeberry shrub and a 'Roger's Red' wild grape, trained on the fence, are recent additions. Most of the back yard was recently remodeled with new hardscaping, which includes a mariposa slate patio and walkway, a dry-stack, natural stone retaining wall, a gurgling fountain, a raised vegetable bed, and a gas firepit. The patio is covered by a triangular shade sail. Part of the old concrete walkway has been recycled into an urbanite path.
Other Garden Attractions: In the front garden, toyon, sugarbush, wooly blue curls, monkeyflowers and large and small buckwheats add to the richness of the garden. In the back yard, a mature Dr. Hurd manzanita was protected during the recent construction. New additions include a western redbud, a tree ceanothus, currants, and California fuchsia. Snowberry and coral bells enjoy the shady areas. The patio is accented by 3, cobalt blue pots with California gray rush. Native vines decorate the fence.
Gardening for Wildlife: Hummingbirds, native bees, butterflies, mourning doves, and other birds visit this garden.
