Growing Natives Garden Tour 2011

Beaumont Garden (10 photos)

Garden #39, Saratoga

Showcase Features: A former pool-and-patio backyard was transformed into an inviting retreat with a flagstone patio, meandering paths, and carefully placed rocks, and many native plants in both sun and shade.

Other Garden Attractions: The custom-made arbor, covered with climbers, leads the visitor from the vegetable garden and an area with succulents and Southern California natives to the area behind the house. Showcase plants include a bigleaf maple, a large mallow, Yankee Point ceanothus, yarrow, and other perennials. Native grasses round out the pleasing picture. The owner says he's never regretted his decision to go native.

Gardening for Wildlife: Bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies visit the garden and enjoy the nectar and pollen plants.
