Growing Natives Garden Tour 2011

Santa Teresa Flowers, Food, and Fun (4 photos)

Garden #34, Cupertino

Showcase Features: A hot and windy corner lot was transformed into a California dreamscape. All the plants in this garden are either California natives or used for food -- and many are both!. The garden includes planter boxes for edibles, lush shrubs and perennials, and even a small lemon tree.

Other Garden Attractions: This garden showcases native plants from both Southern and Northern California. Deer grass, lilac verbena, buckwheat species. island bush poppy, California bush sunflower, Matilija poppy, mesquite, and Baja bird bush attract butterflies and insects year-round. The attractive, aged-metal edging of the planter boxes makes them truly front-garden worthy.

Gardening for Wildlife: Lizards and many kinds of bees and butterflies visit this garden.
