Growing Natives Garden Tour 2013

Zeh Garden (5 photos from 2011)

Garden #4, San Carlos

Showcase Features: This attractive, suburban garden belongs to a homeowner-enthusiast. In the front, annual wildflowers mingle among sages, buckwheats, monkeyflowers and a buckeye that was planted from seed. The back garden includes wild strawberry, bush snapdragon, coast live oak, pitcher sage, sage scrub, mallow, matilija poppy, coast silk tassel, California rose and coffeeberry.

Other Garden Attractions: The back yard plantings had to handle runoff from overwatered properties above this one. Another major design consideration was encouraging wildlife to use the garden by providing plants for food and shelter.

Gardening for Wildlife: The native plants invite various birds and squirrels.
