Growing Natives Garden Tour 2016

Garden #22, Mountain View

Showcase Features: In 2014 the homeowners removed their front lawn and replaced it with a low-maintenance native plant garden accented with natural and salvaged materials. Part of the yard is shaded by a mature tree, and here shade-loving Western chain fern and heuchera thrive. The sunnier half of the front yard has a "Dr. Hurd" Manzanita as a focal point. Sections of wood provide paths through deer grass, artemisia "David's Choice" and Pacific reed grass. Seasonal color is provided by Pacific iris and yarrow.

Other Garden Attractions: A robot sculpture fashioned from salvaged materials provides a unique garden accent, completing the transformation from a cookie-cutter lawn-dominated yard to a more individual and sustainable garden. The robot doubles as a Little Free Library; vistors are welcome to bring a book and/or take a book if they come to this garden.
