Hummingbird Hangout (7 photos)

Garden #84, San Jose

Showcase Features: Professionally installed, the Hummingbird Hangout attracts humans as well as hummers with Bush Snapdragon, Foothill Beard Tongue, California Fuchsia and Flowering Currant. The recent front yard lawn replacement features a Dune Sedge meadow and other natives, along with the owners' yard art. Other natives include Woodland Strawberry, Goldenrod, Buckwheats, Manzanita, Cedros Island Verbena and Palmer's Flowering Maple.

Other Garden Attractions: The backyard packs in many attractive features such as a two-tone composite wood deck, dry creek, flagstone patio with an in-ground fire pit, chicken coop, vegetable boxes and fruit trees! The dry creek is lined with Berkeley Sedge and California Fuchsia, and there is a shady area with Douglas Iris and Yerba Buena.

Gardening for Wildlife: Hummingbirds, bees & butterflies, oh my! There are recirculating fountains in both the front and back yards. There is also an interesting DIY native bee hotel for mason bees.
