Growing Natives Garden Tour 2016
Heatherdale Ave Garden (7 photos)
Garden #52, Santa Clara
Showcase Features: The lawns were converted into mostly native garden beds in this attractive, homeowner designed project. In the front yard, a pervious flagstone path with stenciled shell & fern art, is flanked by prostrate ceanothus. Dark star ceanothus & (non native) rosemary provide a privacy screen for the front porch. The understory of a hybrid Chitalpa is planted with Silver Carpet Beach Aster, California buckwheat, Flannelbush, foothill penstemon, California Fuschia, and others, offering additional color & wildlife value.
Other Garden Attractions: A Roger's red wild grape is trained on the pergola covered patio in the back. Other gems include a large flannel bush, mature southern bush poppy, ground cover Ceanothus, and a young California buckeye.
Gardening for Wildlife: Food, shelter, & nesting places invite many species of birds, insects, bees & butterflies.
