Growing Natives Garden Tour 2011

Vorce Garden (4 photos)

Garden #15, Palo Alto

Showcase Features: Back on the tour after a hiatus, this large front garden has filled in and delights the owner and any passers by. Ground cover sages and manzanita, now fully grown, provide almost complete coverage, but leave some space for some colorful annuals.

Other Garden Attractions: On one side of the front entrance, a group of deer grass welcomes visitors; on the other, an espaliered coast silk tassel bush decorates a wall of the house with year-round, shiny green foilage. An informal hedge of California bush anemone rounds out this surprisingly lush, low-water garden.

Gardening for Wildlife: Bees and butterflies are drawn to the salvias and annuals.
